La Rose Edit: Summer 2020

Writer's picture: RoseRose

Updated: Jun 28, 2020

Every season, I create an Edit – it’s like a mini capsule wardrobe for the season ahead.  Today, I'm going to talk you through the process of how I create it, as well as share with you my Summer 2020 Edit.

My Edit is usually based on the images I've been pinning to my Pinterset board over recent weeks. From these images, I select my colour palette and the 'vibe' that I'm going for for that season.

Once I've made a note of these, I pull together my Edit. These are the 15 or so pieces I would buy for the season ahead, if I were starting from wardrobe from scratch. But, of course, I'm not!  I already have plenty of clothes in my wardrobe.

So, for me, the final stage is to create my capsule wardrobe by selecting the pieces that I already have in my wardrobe and which are closest to those in my Edit.  And without further ado, let's get into the details of my Summer 2020 Edit.

Summer

Ah the joys of summer! The warmth, the sunshine and the long, light-filled evenings.  Here in the UK, we’re finally starting to experience some warmer weather (and very little rain – it’s only rained once or twice since March so the ground is unusually dry and dusty!).  It's making me want to pull out all of my summer clothes!

Inspiration

As the weather has been warming, I’ve been reflecting, over the last few weeks, upon what I enjoyed wearing last summer - namely, easy, breezy linen dresses.  I’ve also been busy pinning plenty of images to my Summer Outfits Pinterest board, which you can see here.

Having pulled together this inspiration, I would say that the 'vibe' I am going for this summer is:

white + free & easy + natural + feminine.

And it's really easy to draw out my colour palette from my Pinterest board too, as I've been pinning so many images in the same colours. My colour palette for this summer is going to be:

Summer 2020 colour palette: white, black, ecru, beige, dusky pink, sky blue, navy blue and cognac brown.

I've gone throught that all quite quickly today. If you’d like to read about the process in some more detail, you may like to read some of my previous blog posts like:

While these posts were written for previous seasons, the principles still apply.

Summer capsule wardrobe

Having got this far, I can already picture some of the pieces that I’m going to pull out from storage to include in my summer capsule wardrobe.  On the plus side, I'm fairly confident that I don't need to buy anything new (more on that in next week's post!).

La Rose Edit: Summer 2020

But before I pull out any of my summer clothes which I've got stored away, I'm going to compile my summer edit.  As I mentioned above, these are the pieces I would buy for my summer wardrobe if I were starting from scratch.

My edit is 100% inspired by the images I've been pinning to my Pinterst board and all the pieces are within my chosen colour palette.

By putting together the edit, I'm not trying to encouraging any shopping (although you can do that if you like!).  Rather, the edit is meant to provide inspiration for pieces which will easily mix and match. It helps me to see pieces which I already have in my wardrobe in new ways and select the ones I'm going to pull out. I hope that it helps you too and provides you with some inspiration. So without further ado, here is a link to my Summer 2020 Edit.

In a few weeks' time, once I've actually put together my summer capsule wardrobe, I will be doing a post showing you how I re-created five summer looks from my Pinterest board with pieces that I already own. It should be a really fun post!

Next week

As for next week, as I hinted at above, I’m going to be writing about how, at the moment, I don't really need to buy anything new for my wardrobe.  In fact, this lockdown period has resulted in me doing a low buy (if not a "no buy") challenge. It's been really unintentional but I'm seeing it as a really positive outcome.  I hope that you'll come back to read that.

In the meantime, have a look at my Summer Edit.   And if you are looking to add any foundational pieces to your wardrobe, you'll want to also check out my Basics Edit here (which I’ve recently updated to make sure all of the items are in stock).  Til next time!
