5 best whites for your Spring capsule wardrobe

Writer's picture: RoseRose

As we come into spring, I like to give my wardrobe a refresh. I also like to start wearing lighter colours. And nothing looks as fresh and light as pure white. So today, I am going to take you through the five white pieces that I like to include in each of my spring capsule wardrobes.

After the navy blues, greys and blacks of winter, I find myself gravitating towards lighter colours as the days start to lengthen. In particular, I always like to include a good smattering of white in my spring capsule wardrobes. White always looks clean and fresh and, most importantly, it pairs with absolutely everything. In my book, its a complete win-win for spring!

For those reasons, I think it is worth spending a little bit extra on these items. You want the fabric to be durable and long-lasting. You also want to pick classic, timeless designs. Doing this will mean that you have these pieces in your wardrobe for years to come.

Below I’ve listed my top five pieces that I like to include in my spring capsule wardrobes. You probably have these pieces already but, if not, I’ve also included some shopping links below at various price points for you to pick from.

1. The White T-Shirt

If you don’t already have one in your wardrobe, then a plain, white t-shirt has to be the first item on your list for spring 2019. They are an absolute essential in any wardrobe, in the same way that a good pair of jeans are. You will wear your white t-shirt again and again. You may even have to buy multiples, if you find that your white t-shirt is always in the wash! White t-shirts are so versatile - you can:

  • Layer them under knits and blazers on colder days.

  • Wear them casually with jeans and skirts at the weekend.

  • Pair with dressier bottoms to create a more edgy look.

Here are my favourites, in case you need to add one to your wardrobe this spring:

2. White broderie anglaise top

No item quite epitomises spring like a white broderie anglaise top. They are feminine, elegant and timeless. I would try to find one which is 100% cotton. They may be a bit of a pain to iron but I think the effort is well worth it. You will receive so many compliments wearing it!  Here are my favourites:

3. White linen or silk blouse

A white, linen or silk blouse looks classic and chic at any time of the year but they are a particularly versatile piece in the spring-time. I think that, if you can afford it, it is well worth investing in a 100% pure linen or silk blouse in a simple, classic design. A piece like this will really stand the test of time and you will have it in your wardrobe for many years to come.

You can:

  • Layer it under a dress on colder days.

  • Wear it under a blazer on those interchangeable days.

  • Wear it on its own once it gets warm enough.

Here are my top picks:

4. White jeans

Again, I love white jeans year round but best of all in the spring time. They look instantly fresh, every top you have will pair with them and, in my view, they will always be a classic. My

5 top tips for buying and wearing a pair of white jeans are:

  • Find a store which stocks various brands of white jeans and try 5-10 pairs on to find the pair which fits you best.

  • Choose a classic cut without any logos or distressing.

  • Make sure that they are not see-through!

  • Wear skin-colour underwear underneath.

  • Replace every 2-3 years to ensure they always look crisp white.

5. White trainers

I think it’s so useful to include a pair of white trainers in your spring capsule wardrobe.  You can wear them to run errands in, on your commute to work and at the weekends with trousers, jeans, skirts, dresses and shorts – basically everything.  And being white, they will also go with absolutely everything!  Here are my favourites:

I hope that this has given you some inspiration for white pieces to include in your wardrobe this spring!
