Capsule wardrobe basics
Last year, I focused on building up my wardrobe 'basics'. (I've written about this before and you can read that blog post here.)
Wardrobe basics are the foundational pieces, or building blocks, of your wardrobe. They are the pieces which you need to make, or complete, the outfit. They include, for example, the white t-shirt, the black jeans and the black ankle boots.
I used to regard these as the ‘boring items’ and only spent my money on them grudgingly. But you cannot underestimate how important they are to your wardrobe, especially a capsule one. Including them in your wardrobe will really make the difference and allow you to create endless outfit combinations.
Black & white
Packing for a holiday this weekend has reminded me of all the wardrobe basis I stocked up on last year in both black and white. As I am attempting to pack as light as possible, I've pulled out the black and white versions of several items (along with a small handful of colourful pieces). Hopefully this is going to give me lots of outfit options while I am away (after all, it is only a 9-day trip!).
So I thought I would share with you my top 5 items to stock up on in both black and white:
#1 - White / black short-sleeve t-shirts
#2 - White / black long-sleeve t-shirts
#3 - White / black jeans
#4 - Nude / black bra
#5 - Summer white trainers / Winter black ankles
It's all about versatility!
Trust me, adding these pieces to your wardrobe will make a huge difference. You will suddenly find that you have a wardrobe which is extremely versatile. You will be able to pair these black and white pieces with either other basic pieces to make classic, timeless outfits; or a bold top or bottom to create an outfit which is unique to you.
Give it a try and you'll see!
