Today, I am going to share with you how I got on with planning my autumn capsule wardrobe.
I’ve now put away my summer wardrobe (you can read all about that here) and I’m ready to build my autumn capsule wardrobe.
As I outlined a few days ago (see here), the first step is come up with a plan.
So, today, I'm going to work through the questions I posed in my previous blog post. That will form my plan for my autumn capsule wardrobe.
Step 1 – Identify the type of capsule wardrobe you are going to create
So let's answer the 6 questions I set out in my previous blog post:
1. What is the purpose of your capsule wardrobe?
Seasonal capsule wardrobe for autumn.
3 months.
Cool temperatures (around 8 – 20C).
2. What is your style inspiration for the season ahead?
I’ve already spent some time gathering inspiration for the season ahead (you can read that blog post here).
As part of that exercise, I created a Pinterest autumn mood board and an outfit inspiration board.
3. What is your colour palette going to be?
Based on my Pinterest boards, as well as the pieces I already have in my wardrobe, I’ve selected the following colour palette for my autumn capsule wardrobe:

So my neutral colours are chambray blue, white, grey, navy, beige and black. My two accent colours are dusky pink and berry red. I'm not sure about wearing those two accent colours together, although it would be very on trend if I did!
More, I hope that these two accent colours will add a 'pop of colour' to my outfits. On sunnier days, I'll probably opt for dusky pink; on moodier days, berry red.
4. If you were to pick three words, what is the ‘vibe’ of your capsule going to be?
Sophisticated.
Layered.
Chic.
5. Write down three items you would definitely like to include in your capsule.
White shirt.
Grey crew neck sweater.
Black jeans.
Step 2 – Don’t skip this step!
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, my nature is to skip entirely over this step. However, without taking the time to carefully plan my next capsule wardrobe, I know that I wouldn’t have such a clear direction for it.
I’ve already started to list in my head the pieces I want to include in it. And I have lots of ideas from my Pinterest boards about the outfits I want to create.
I have no doubt that spending this time planning my wardobe now is going to save me a lot of time, energy and money over the next three months. So, for me, it’s definitely worth the upfront investment.
Next week
Next week, I'm going to talk you through how to actually build a capsule wardrobe, step-by-step. So make sure you come back for that!
