As we enter spring, it's time to change over your capsule wardrobe. Today, I am going to take you through the 5 easy steps of planing your spring capsule wardrobe. Last week, I wrote about my inspiration for my spring 2019 capsule wardrobe. (You can read that blog post here.) This week, I wanted to follow-up by setting out 5 steps you can take to start planning your spring capsule wardrobe.

1. Make a list First of all, make a quick list of all the outfits and items of clothing you enjoyed wearing last spring. This will help you to identify the patterns and trends within your own wardrobe. You may even notice a ‘uniform’ outfit (i.e. a formula you wear again and again during the season e.g. my uniform in spring time is a silk blouse, light coloured jeans or chinos and ballet flats).
This will help you to narrow down the items which you need to focus on. There’s absolutely no point filling your wardrobe for spring with floral maxi dresses (however beautiful they are), if they don't fit with your day-to-day life and you will never wear them!
2. Create a Pinterest mood board
You may also want to give your wardrobe a bit of an update, or at least attempt to style your existing pieces in new and interesting ways. So jump onto Pinterest and create a mood board of the items, styles and images that inspire you for spring 2019 (they don't all have to fashion related - whatever inspires you!). Add pins quickly and don’t think too much about it.
Once you’ve got a mood board of say 30 or 50 pins (maybe even a 100), run back through them and identify any patterns or trends. For example, are there any colours, textures or styles which are particularly drawn to? This will further narrow down the items to focus on in creating your spring capsule wardrobe. You can see my Pinterest inspiration board for spring 2019 here and which I wrote about here.
3. Consider trends
Next, think about any trends you may wish to include in your spring capsule wardrobe. You probably want to include only one or two trendier items in each seasonal capsule. I will be writing a blog post all about trends for spring 2019 next week so make sure you come back to read that.
4. Keep an eye out
Having followed the above steps, you will begin to form a picture of the pieces which you want to include in your wardrobe this spring. Keep an eye out for these pieces now so that you can make the best possible purchase.
First, you will want to make a note of the features or requirements for each piece. For example, if you are looking to add a white blazer to your wardrobe, make a note of the style, detailing and fabric you are looking for (e.g. you might note down: classic shape, lined, gold buttons, single-breasted, linen). Second, start scouring for this piece. You can look i) in stores at full-price items or ii) in stores for sale items (Shoptagr is an excellent app to use as it notifies you when items go on sale) or iii) in second-hand stores or iv) on eBay. 5. Make space Go through your wardrobe from last spring and clear out the pieces which you no longer wish to keep e.g. those that no longer fit you, suit your personal style or are past their best. You can sell, donate or recycle these pieces. You are going to need to create some space in your wardrobe for the new items you wish to add! It might also be worth giving your wardrobe a quick clean and dust down as you do this. I hope that you find these 5 steps to be helpful.
