Outfit inspiration: Spring 2019

Writer's picture: RoseRose

Today, I am going to take you through how to gather and collect inspiration for your spring capsule wardrobe.

As the first signs of spring appear, I’ve started to plan my spring capsule wardrobe, or at least to compile inspiration for it. Being only the middle of February still, this may seem a little premature. But I find that the longer I spend planning my wardrobe (and my outfits), the better that they turn out.  Plus, I absolutely love spring – it’s easily my favourite season. I love that change in the natural world as we wake up from winter, the buds start to open, young green shoots start to appear on the trees and the clocks go forward, giving us long and daylight-filled evenings.

How to gather, collect and record inspiration for your spring capsule wardrobe

At the start of each new season, the first step I like to take is to create a Pinterest board to showcase all of my ideas and inspiration for the season ahead. This helps me to see the patterns and trends – the pieces and colours that I’m drawn towards - as well as gather inspiration about how to style pieces that I looking to include in my next capsule wardrobe.

The outcome

Sometimes, I find that the process is very predictable. I already have an extremely clear idea of how I want to dress and look for the coming season. Other times (like now) I find it to be a very surprising exercise – as what I put together is completely new and exciting!

In previous seasons, I would describe my style as classic with a twist – sometimes that twist has been more feminine, other times more preppy.  This time around, I’ve definitely put together a board which is classic, French chic. The colours are muted – full of soft whites, creams, blush pinks, blues and greys.  As for the clothes, there are white blouses, light blue Chambray shirts and blush pink pleated skirts. The tailoring is chic, feminine, à la française.

There are also some floral maxi dresses dresses in the mix (which is an item that I’ve never worn before), together with smart, classic chinos and a lot of ballet pumps.  There are certainly enough outfit ideas and combinations to last me the full 12 weeks of the season!

Evolving style

I’m now so excited about putting this next capsule wardrobe together. I really feel that my style is evolving and taking on a new direction. How about you - what style and pieces are you drawn to for spring? Leave me a comment below. I'd love to know.

Finally, if you'd like to take a look, here is a link to my Pinterest board for spring.
