Today, I'm going to share with you my inspiration for my Spring capsule wardrobe.
I always use Pinterest to gather inspiration for a new season. It's such an excellent resource for collating images that inspire you, whether that be in terms of the outfit, textures or colours, and saving them all in one place.

So I've been editing and adding to my Spring Pinterest board over the last few weeks. You can visit it here.
Over the last couple of days, I've been scrolling through my board to identify patterns, trends and, in essence, the styles I'm drawn towards this season. Noting these down now will help me when I come to create my Spring capsule wardrobe (over the next couple of weeks). Hopefully these pointers will help you too as you make the wardrobe transition from Winter to Spring.
Tip #1 – Settle on a colour palette
It's always good to select a colour palette for the season. That will mean that all of the items in your wardrobe will mix and match easily and so will maximise the total number of outfits that you can make.
If I scroll through my own Pinterest board, it's easy to identify the colours I'm drawn towards this Spring:

My base colours are dark grey, navy, white and black. My accents colours are sky blue, beige, brown and sage green.
If you are having trouble selecting a colour palette, you could select an image, photo or picture, which for you sums up Spring, and then draw the colours out from that. Or you could always use Pinterest to find a ready-made colour palette. As a general rule of thumb, I would recommend settling on 5-6 base colours and 2-3 accent colours.
Once you have a colour palette, then you can select the clothes you wish to include in your wardrobe that fall within it. By narrowing down the colours that should make the whole process a lot easier.
Tip #2 – Don't forget texture
As for my second pointer: one medium which is so often overlooked in a wardrobe is texture. When you create a capsule wardrobe, you are usually working to a limited number of pieces, within a limited number of colours. You can however create more variety by including different textures. In a way, it's the 3-D element. You take a 2-D capsule wardrobe (pieces + colour) and make it 3-D (texture).
Looking at my Pinterest board, I can see that I'm really drawn to a variety of textures this Spring - in particular linen but also shimmering silks, pale blue demins and soft knits. I particularly want to add a white linen shirt to my wardrobe. I think that they are timeless and classic and go with literally everything.
While it's likely that you may want to add a handful of new pieces to your wardrobe at the start of each season (not least to replace pieces which have worn out), it's also important to use what you already have. That's what I am planning to do (especially in the current times). In doing so, I'm going to be focusing on including different textures, taking inspiration from my Pinterest board.
Tip #3 – Work out your uniform outfit for the season
As for my final tip, I heard a really useful pointer the other day (and one I wish I'd thought of before): select a uniform for the season. That way, if you are ever stuck in the mornings as to what to wear, you can simply revert to your tried and tested uniform outfit.
To come up with this, it's a good idea to think back to what types of outfits you enjoyed wearing this time last year and that worked well for your lifestyle. For me, this was a pretty blouse, cropped trousers and a stylish pair of flats, topped by a trench coat.
I can also see this combination repeated on my Pinterest board. So that really confirms it! My uniform outfit for this Spring is:
Pretty blouse + Cropped trousers + Trench coat + Stylish flats
It looks something like this:
While it's not exactly ground breaking, it works well for my lifestyle and also deals with the changing and variable Spring temperatures. So anytime that I get stuck in the morning, I can simply revert to this tried and tested outfit formula. Try it! Leave me a comment below to let me know what yours will be.
Inspirational pieces
Its always good to put what you've learnt into practice. So, if I were starting my entire Spring wardrobe from scratch and had to go out and buy all new pieces, these are some of the items I would purchase, based on my Spring Pinterest board:
Looking at these items, I realise that I have many similar items in my wardrobe already. So creating my capsule wardrobe this Spring should be a really easy exercise for me.
I hope this provides you with some ideas and inspiration for creating your own capsule wardrobe for Spring. Leave me a comment below to let me know how you are getting on.
