Top 5 trends: Summer 2019

Writer's picture: RoseRose

Today, I would like to share with you my top 5 trends for summer 2019.

Capsule wardobes are a form of minimalism. You may already be familiar with them but, if not, they usually consist of a limited number of key, basic pieces, which you can mix and match to form multiple outfits.

So how can you incorporate trends into your capsule wardrobe?  Well, I would suggest that you look to include one or two trendy pieces in each of your seaonsal capsule wardrobes.

That way, you will feel and look up-to-date, while still keeping to a limited number of items and reducing the number of items in your wardrobe which quickly go out of fashion.

Today, I would like to share with you my top 5 trends for summer 2019. These are the ones that I think will be easiest to incorporate into your capsule wardrobe and prove to have the most versality, by giving you endless outfit choices as well as standing the test of time.  So without further ado, let's get into the 5 trends.

1. Wicker

This was a big trend last summer and continues to be this summer. I love it because, being neutral, its very easy to wear and also adds some texture to your outfit. I would suggest adding only one straw piece to each outfit.  That way, your look won't look overdone but you will instantly 'summer-fy' your outfit.  In talking about wicker pieces, we are really talking about accessories - so think, jewellery, shoes and bags.  I've included links to my favourite pieces below.  You may have some of these in your wardrobe already!

2. Prairie dresses

This is a spring trend, which has carried over to summer. What is a prairie dress? Imagine a full- or short- sleeved maxi dress, usually in a disty print or denim, which may have a frill bib detail or a tiered, ruffled skirt. Traditionally, they were made and worn by the 19th century pioneer women living on the prairies of the USA. It's the American, country version of Victorian dress. And it's back!  I think that they are really pretty and I've included my top picks below.

3. Yellow

The colour of lemons, canaries and happiness is all the rage this summer (and I have a feeling it will carry on into autumnn too). While it can be a difficult colour to wear, the trend encompasses the full colour spectrum of yellow so you will be able able to find the shade which suits your skin tone the best. If you're not ready to go the full whack in a bright yellow dress or jumpsuit, think about adding a spot of yellow to your outfit through your accessories or shoes.  Or, if you want to soften the yellow-i-ness, pick an item with a large proportion of white in it.  I've linked my favourite finds below.

4. The white blouse

Another perennial classic: the white blouse. I'm not sure any summer would be complete without one! They are great for the city on those hot and sweaty days, especially if you choose natural fibres, and equally great on holiday and at the beach. Plus, being white, they will pair with any coloured bottoms.  Plus, there are so many styles available that you will always be able to find one which suits you and your budget.   See my favourites below.

5. Sleeveless knits

I love this one. Why?  Because they are the perfect item to wear on a summer's evening, when the temperatures drop from the heat of the day.  You can pair them with a skirt, shorts or trousers and they look a little dressier for the evenings. I am so glad this trend is back!  Again, my top picks are below.

So those are my top 5 trends for summer. Happy trending!
