Ever stuck wondering what to wear? Then capsule wardrobes are probably for you and, whatever the season, weather or occasion, you will always have an outfit to wear. Today, I am going to fully explain why I recommend you to build a capsule wardrobe.
In recent posts, I’ve mentioned capsule wardrobes A LOT. Indeed, my whole website to date is focused on the capsule wardrobe concept. But, so far, I have not explained in detail why I like and use capsule wardrobes and the reasons why you may want to do so as well. Today, I seek to address that and explain a) what is a capsule wardrobe, b) the reasons why I recommend you create one and c) how to go about it.

What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is essentially a limited number of clothing items from which you can create multiple outfits. That is possible because all of the clothing items are:
Essential pieces.
Mix and match.
From the same colour palette.
Proportional in terms of type (i.e. the ratio of tops to bottoms is just perfect).
Easy to accessorise.
For any history buffs out there, the phrase ‘capsule wardrobe’ was first coined by Susie, the owner of a London boutique, in the 1970s. She believed it to be a collection of a few essential items of clothing, which will never go out of fashion and can be updated with seasonal pieces.
It sounds perfect! A way of shopping for, organising and managing yoru wardrobe that will simplify your life. This will mean, I hope, that you you can then focus on the things and the people that you love the most. Which brings me nicely on to the next question.
Why create a capsule wardrobe?
There are numerous reasons why you may want to create a capsule wardrobe. I first did so because I was packing for a holiday and wanted to include a range of outfits in one small suitcase. I’ve since applied the concept to my entire wardrobe, rolling it out season by season. I’ve now been using the capsule wardrobe concept for more than 5 years.
In that time, I have come to fully understand and appreciate the benefits of using capsule wardrobes. In my experience, the top 5 reasons to use capsule wardrobes are - they:
Save you money.
Save you time.
Provide a system for organising and managing your wardrobe.
Maximise wear and avoid waste.
Let you lead a simpler life.
How do you create a capsule wardrobe?
That’s an excellent question and one I answer (in a lot of detail and by providing you with step-by-step guide) in my ebook, 'Capsule Wardrobes: How To Book'. You can buy and download a copy from my online shop here.
Which capsule wardrobe is best for me?
There are lots of capsule wardrobe variants. Some people use it for their entire wardrobe (like me); some only for holidays or particular events. Similarly, some use very small capsule wardrobes of only 10 pieces; others much larger ones of 30, 60 or 90 pieces.
I think the best way to work out what is best for you is to start small and grow big. So give a mini capsule wardrobe a go – create one maybe for a holiday or for special events (like a series of weddings this summer) or for your gym or lounge wear. See how you get on with it and, if you like it, then you can roll it out to other parts of your wardrobe (e.g. one season at a time).
Where can I find out more about capsule wardrobes?
There are lots of resources out there to assist you. That being so, I am committed to writing about capsule wardrobes. I will be writing blog posts once a week. So you can always pop back here for more info / guidance / inspiration. I'd love to have you join me as I continue my capsule wardrobe journey.
So that's it, capsule wardrobes in a nutshll! Why not give one a go?!
