Last week, I wrote about how to gather inspiration for your Spring capsule wardrobe. (you can read that blog post here). Today, I would like to share with you my top 5 fashion trends for Spring 2020. These are the ones which I believe are the most wearable and so the easiest to incorporate into a capsule wardrobe.
With a capsule wardrobe, I usually recommend only including one or two trendy pieces. Trends come and go and so, if you're aim is to build a long-term and substainable wardrobe, then there's no point overly investing in pieces you're going to wear for only a season or two.
I've been researching the top trends for 2020. Today, I'd like to share with you my top 5. These are the ones which I believe are the most wearable and so the easiest to incoporate into your capsule wardrobe. So let's get going!

Trend #1 - All White
The first trend I'd like to highlight is All White. We see white come around each Spring time and a wardrobe classic for Spring is a pretty, white blouse. This season, it's all about the completely white outfit.
Of course, you can choose trousers and a top. But probably the easiest and breeziest way to nail this trend is to opt for a white dress. I love them! They are classic, fresh and very, very feminine. This one gets a full thumbs-up from me. My top picks below.
Trend #2 - Woven Leather Bags
Last season, wicker (or basket) bags were really, really big. While they are still in vogue, this Spring / Summer, the new take is woven leather bags. This one is clearly inspired by the Bottega Veneta bags which are very, very popular at the moment.
Now, other brands are coming out with their own take. I really, really like this trend. They are stylish and chic and (through texture) will instantly add a point of interest to an otherwise basic outfit. Texture is something I highlighted for this season, in my 'Outfit inspiration ~ Spring 2020' post which you can read here. So if you can't quite afford a Bottega Veneta, there are plenty of other options out there.
Trend #3 - Puff Sleeves
Puff sleeves are really big this season, as seen already on the Duchess of Cambridge.
I believe that this is one of those fleeting trends, so one you might not want to invest in too heavily. Yet, by adding a piece of two, you will instantly update your wardrobe and create an on-trend look.
I suggest adding either a puff blouse sleeve or dress to your wardrobe. Keep the look classic by adding the piece in a simple block colour or classic pattern (such as stripes). My selection below.
Trend #4 - Chunky Chain Necklaces
In recent seasons, we've seen a move away from the statement necklace to delicate jewellery. I personally still wear both as I like them. For me, accessories are a quick and easy way to change up an otherwise simple or classic outfit and create a totally new look.
The new trend this season is somewhere in between. It's the chunky chain necklace. And its a trend I'm onboard with as they are classic and timeless pieces. Once again, they add interest to a simple outfit through texture.
This may be the time to invest in a 'forever' version, or to opt for a more affordable piece if you see this as only a fleeting trend for you. My top picks below.
Trend #5 - '90s Simplicity
Last Autumn, satin was a leading trend, following a '90s revival. You can read the blog post I wrote at the time about that here.
This Spring, the '90s revival continues and we are seeing all sorts of '90s simiplicity in pieces on the High Street. While I'm not a fan of all of the '90s trends (aka dungarees, leather blazers and branded sportswear), there are a couple which I really like and which would be very easy to incorporate into your wardrobe this Spring - namely, the slip dress and strappy sandals. Once again, I've included my top picks of these below.
So those are my top 5 trends for Spring 2020. I hope this gives you some ideas about which pieces you might like to include in your wardrobe this season to look on trend, without either going overboard or spending a fortune. Leave me a comment below to let me know which trend is your favourite and which pieces you plan to include in your wardrobe.
